he Department of Contemporary Applied and Decorative Art demonstrates all leading centers of handicrafts and artistic industry giving the most profound idea of Russian applied art. It presents the traditional toy centers: Kargopol, Ryazan, Penza, Dymkovo, Bogorodskoye, Fedoseyevo, Semyonovo, etc. Sergiev Posad is a major center of toy production too.

Besides, the Museum displays art of Gzhel and Khokhloma, all centers of lacquer miniature painting - Palekh, Fedoskino, Mstera and Kholui; Zhostovo trays and Pavlov Posad shawls; articles of the Urals stones; northern and Chukotka bone-carving, metalwork of Kubachi in Dagestan, Krasnoye on the Volga and Zlatoust; Kasli cast iron, Veliky Ustyug niello; Permogorye carving in birch bark and traditional Sergiev Posad painting with poker-work.

The Museum possesses a large collection of individual artists' works produced at the largest porcelain and glass plants of Russia. The collection is being constantly completed as the result of expeditions and acquisitions from the regular exhibitions organized by the Museum.
